基于1950—2021年美國國家環(huán)境預(yù)報(bào)中心/大氣研究中心(NCEP/NCAR)再分析資料以及英國哈德萊中心提供的海溫、海冰密集度資料,分析了年際尺度上北極—?dú)W亞溫度偶極型模態(tài)及其對應(yīng)環(huán)流的非對稱特征和可能形成機(jī)理。結(jié)果表明,這種模態(tài)自身即相關(guān)地表氣溫異常的位置和強(qiáng)度在其正負(fù)位相下非對稱性都較弱,其中暖北極—冷歐亞(Warm Arctic-Cold Eurasia,WACE)事件下的溫度異常分布略偏北,在歐亞大陸的冷異常相較于冷北極—暖歐亞(Cold Arctic-Warm Eurasia,CAWE)事件暖異常的強(qiáng)度略強(qiáng)。然而,WACE模態(tài)正負(fù)位相對應(yīng)的環(huán)流有明顯的非對稱性,WACE事件對應(yīng)著弱的北大西洋濤動(dòng)(North Atlantic Oscillation,NAO)正位相以及歐亞大陸上空的強(qiáng)大的高壓異常,而CAWE事件則對應(yīng)著強(qiáng)NAO負(fù)位相。進(jìn)一步研究表明,這種環(huán)流的非對稱性特征與熱帶太平洋海溫調(diào)控的非對稱性有關(guān),當(dāng)La Niña事件出現(xiàn),尤其海溫的負(fù)異常中心偏西時(shí),歐亞大陸中高緯地區(qū)地表氣溫易呈現(xiàn)WACE的形態(tài),而CAWE事件則主要由大氣內(nèi)部變率調(diào)控,與熱帶太平洋海溫的聯(lián)系不明顯。

Abstract:

Based on the atmospheric reanalysis data from NCEP/NCAR and the sea surface temperature and sea ice concentration data from 1950 to 2021 provided by the Met Office Hadley Centre, this paper concentrates on the Arctic-Eurasia temperature dipole mode on the interannual timescale and the asymmetric characteristics of its corresponding circulation and possible mechanisms. Results show that the asymmetry of the surface air temperature anomalies of the WACE (Warm Arctic-Cold Eurasia) pattern is weak from both aspects of location and intensity. The temperature anomalies during the WACE events are distributed slightly more northward, and the cold anomalies in Eurasia are slightly stronger compared with the intensity of the warm anomalies during the Cold Arctic-Warm Eurasia (CAWE) events. However, the corresponding circulation of the WACE pattern has obvious asymmetry in its warm and cold phases. The WACE events are usually accompanied with weak positive phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and strong high-pressure systems over Eurasia, while the CAWE events correspond to strong negative phase of NAO. Further analyses show that the asymmetric characteristics of this circulation are related to the asymmetric modulation of the sea surface temperature in the tropical Pacific. When a La Niña event occurs, especially when the center of negative sea temperature anomalies is displaced westward, the surface air temperature anomalies in the mid-high latitudes of Eurasia tend to present a WACE-like pattern. In contrast, CAWE events are mainly controlled by atmospheric internal variability, which are not closely related to the tropical Pacific Sea surface temperature anomalies.
