Abstract:Climatic features of the tropical cyclones landed onto Guangdong provi nce have been studied in this paper by using of the tropical cyclone (here after shorted for TC) track data set [2,3] and the rain gauge data in Guangdong pro vince during the recent 52 years (1949~2000). The results show that there were , on the average, 3.9 TC landed onto Guangdong province per year. It has been show n by a wavelet analysis that the middle of the 1970's was a milestone of climate change as far as the temporal variation tendency in the numbers of landing TC i s concerned. During the first half of the 52 year period (1949~1975), The domin a nt varying periods of the landing TC number was qausi-3 (2~4) year, 7 (6~8) ye ars and 12 (10~16) years. During the second half of the period (1976~2000), howe ver, the main variation period was 4~12 years. On decadal scale, there were 5 per iods of plentiful TC landed onto Guangdong during the past 52 years, i.e. periods of 1949~1950,1959~1965,1972~976,1982~1987 and 1991~1996.
