Abstract:This paper summarized some progresses of research about wind retrieval from microwave scatterometer.Firstly, the principle of wind vector retrieval from microwave scatterometer was introduced.Then, it gave an introduction of research on wind retrieval including the establishment and solution of geophysical model function (GMF) and the methods for ambiguity removal.Lastly, the research of neural network and genetic algorithm used in wind retrieval was presented.It drew the conclusion that the method using the GMF had developed successfully, but it can still be improved, especially for the severe weather like precipitation and typhoon.Moreover, the new methods of neural network and genetic algorithm provided another way for wind retrieval improvement.
