Abstract:Using the annual maximum 10 min averaged wind speed observation of Huangshi weather stations from 1956 to 2000, it is found that the series of yearly maximum wind speed has an abrupt change around 1990. Taking project safety and national standards into account, choosing the yearly maximum wind speed of Huangshi weather stations from 1956 to 1989 and using the function of extreme value type I to calculate the yearly maximum 10 min averaged wind speed at the height of 10 m above surface at the station for different return periods(100, 50, 30,10 a), the results are 251 m/s, 233 m/s, 220 m/s and 191 m/s respectively. The enlarging coefficient of wind speed from the station to the bridge area is 12, which is calculated by using ratio method. And then the yearly maximum 10 min averaged wind speed at the bridge area at the height of 10 m above surface for different return periods(100,50,30,10 a) are further calculated as 301 m/s, 280 m/s, 264 m/s and 229 m/s respectively.
