Abstract:The EVAP technology was used to retrieve an ocean-effect snowstorm in Shangdong Peninsula on 30 December, 2010, in order to analyze the characteristics of radar echo and wind field at low level during snowstorm. Results show that the snowstorm did not take place simultaneously in Yantai and Weihai and the snowbelt moved eastward obviously, meanwhile, the corresponding strong echo zone gradually moved to east in Yantai, but kept stationary in Weihai. The strong radar echo started and weakened in the Bohai Sea, and the location of the strong echo zone corresponded well to the convergence zone of wind field. The movement of horizontal shear line of retrieval wind field led to the fluctation of strong echo zone. The shear line in northern Yantai was relatively stable, but in southern Yantai it gradually moved to west, which caused the strong echo zone to rotate clockwise;the shear line in southern Weihai was relatively stable, but in northern Weihai it gradually moved to west, which caused the strong echo zone to rotate counterclockwise. The convergence of northeast wind crossing Liaoning province and the northwest(west)wind in Shangdong Peninsula brought about the shear line, whose movement was affected by the weakening west wind component.
