Abstract:Based on the S-band dual polarization Doppler weather radar data of Jinan, combined with satellite, sounding and surface meteorological observation data, the characteristics of dual polarization parameters and microphysics of heavy rain storms before and after the merging, occurred in Qufu of Shandong Province on 6 August 2020, were analyzed. Rresults show that:(1) there were multiple mergers between two cloud bands, and after the merger, the storm strengthened and developed, resulting in larger minute rainfall and accumulated rainfall. (2)The typical dual polarization characteristics of initial cells are large ZDR and CC, indicating the presence of a little liquid particles. The typical dual polarization characteristics of growth of initial cells are the appearance of KDP column and ZDR column, indicating the enhancement of updraft, the increases in the concentration of liquid particles significantly, and the appearance of large liquid particles. (3)The main characteristics of development of the merging echo are increases in the height of higher strong echo, storm top and KDP column, in the KDP values under -10℃ layer, especially at the bottom of storm. (4) The typical microphysical features of development of the merging echo are the increasing rapidly in concentration of liquid raindrops and the thickness of ice crystals or graupels layer. There are abundant liquid water in the middle and lower level of the exuberant storm, and abundant ice phase particles in the upper level of the exuberant storm, leading to high-intensity precipitation on the surface.
